WHAT IS CAPF EXAM ?

The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to a standardized nomenclature under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs of seven security forces in India.These are the Assam Rifles (AR), CRPF, Border Security Force (BSF), CISF, National Security Guard (NSG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

UPSC CAPF Vacancy 2020

The number of vacancies will be revealed later, as the Official Notice is not issued yet.
A total of 323 vacancies were reported for recruitment under UPSC CAPF last year.
About 400 UPSC CAPF vacancies are scheduled to be issued under this 2020 UPSC CAPF Recruitment.
We’ll monitor the exact number of vacancies until the Commission issues the Official Notification.

Security Forces Under Central Armed Police Force

1.Assam Rifles (AR)

  • Assam Rifles is one of India’s oldest paramilitary forces founded far back in 1835.
  • Such forces are guarding India’s north-eastern borders and fighting the insurgency in India’s northeastern states.
  • The Commission recruits each year via UPSC CAPF recruitment for the position of Assistant Commandant in these forces.

2.Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)

  • These forces were established in 1939 to maintain law and order in the country.
  • Certain roles include riot / crowd control, conflict activities, UN peacekeeping mission involvement, coordination & security arrangement during general elections, etc.
  • Candidates selected under UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandant will be posted anywhere in the country under this Force.

3.Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)

  • This force was established in 1969 for the purpose of providing protection to central government agencies and undertakings in the public sector.
  • These armed forces are also providing protective protection for Space Research Organisation, Nuclear Power Plants, Airports , Seaports, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Public Sector Banks.

4.Border Security Force (BSF)

  • It is the duty of Border Security Forces to guard India ‘s land frontiers against Pakistan & Bangladesh.
  • Such powers’ main responsibility is to watch over international frontiers and prevent any interference.
  • It is our first line of defence and the Asst Commandant recruits are usually posted on International Borders by UPSC CAPF recruitment under these powers.

5.Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)

  • Such forces provide protection for citizens living in border areas along with other duties including illegal entry into Indian territory, prevention of smuggling, trans-border violence, etc.

6.National Security Guard (NSG)

  • NSG was established as a counterter-terrorism unit in 1984.
  • They are Federal Contingency Forces with special training to counter all of the country’s forms of terrorism.
  • They ‘re highly trained & professional commandos.

7.Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP)

  • Such forces defend Indo-China bordering Indian territory.
  • ITBP forces have several qualified mountaineers working in relief and rescue during natural disasters.

CAPF Exam Pattern

  • The CAPF UPSC exam consists of 2 papers both in writing format.
  • Paper-I measures candidates’ general ability and intellect, and is based on a multiple-choice question format.

  • Candidates are given 2 hours time to complete 200 paper-I questions with 250 marks and 3 hours to complete 6 paper-II descriptive style questions with 200 marks.

CAPF AC Syllabus for Paper II is divided in two parts:

Part‐A–Totals 80 marks contain essay questions to be answered either in Hindi or English in the narrative form.
The indicative topics in the essay syllabus of UPSC Assistant Commandant are geography, polity, modern Indian history in particular of the struggle for independence, culture, analytical capacity, knowledge of security and human rights issues.

Part B–Part B is a minimum of 120 points covering understanding, correct writing and other communication or language skills problems.
This section will be attempted in English only.
The topics covered in this section of the CAPF AC syllabus are Comprehension Passages, Precise Reading, Clear Grammar, Counterarguments Development and Other aspects of language testing.

UPSC CAPF Exam Marking

In addition to understanding the pattern of the CAPF test and the UPSC Assistant Commandant Syllabus for CAPF recruitment Exam 2019, candidates must also learn the CAPF exam marking scheme.

CAPF Marking scheme is given in detail below:

  • Negative marking is only valid for paper of an objective form i.e.1/3rd, i.e. (0.33) marks are deducted for any wrong answer.
  • When a candidate gives more than one answer to any question, it will be viewed as an incorrect answer and 1/3rd marks will be deducted for it, regardless of whether one of the answers marked is correct.
  • When a question is left unanswered, i.e. the applicant does not indicate an answer to a specific question, there will be no deductions for that question.
  • Paper-II is a descriptive form and therefore no negative marking applies.

  • Minimum Age: 20 years
  • Maximum Age: 25 years

Age Relaxation:

  • OBC – 3 years
  • SC/ST – 5 years
  • Central Government Servants/Ex-Servicemen – 5 years

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for the post of Assistant Commandants must be graduate in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Assistant Commandant (AC) operates a company of approximately 150 armed personnel deployed to administer elections and preserve normalcy, apart from the initial border guard and industrial corridor security (CISF) mandates.
  2. Although CRPF is one of those forces specifically engaged in law and order management and assisting local administration in sustaining local order,
  3. the Assistant Commandant must perform duties such as preparing and performing operations,
  4. ensure on-the-job preparation to keep the company in a constant state of operational readiness for the requirement in any situation, and coordinate indepted operations
    ensuring efficacy and serviceability of armaments in the Company.
